Facebook Ad Size: Every Meta Placement Spec

The 2026 Facebook ad size for every Meta placement: Feed, Stories, Reels, carousel, right column, and Marketplace, verified against Meta's official Ads Guide.

By Aditya Bawankule8 min read

The Facebook ad size Meta recommends today is 1440 x 1800 pixels at a 4:5 aspect ratio for Feed, and 1440 x 2560 pixels at 9:16 for Stories and Reels. Carousel, right column, and Marketplace ads are square, at least 1080 x 1080. Images are JPG or PNG up to 30MB; videos are MP4, MOV, or GIF up to 4GB. Every number below comes from Meta's official Ads Guide, checked placement by placement, because most cheat sheets still quote the 1200 x 628 landscape spec Meta stopped recommending.

Facebook ad size by placement

One table, every placement that matters. These are Meta's recommended resolutions, not minimums:

PlacementRatioRecommended resolutionMinimum
Facebook Feed (image)4:51440 x 1800 px600 px wide, 750 px tall
Facebook Feed (video)4:51440 x 1800 px120 x 120 px
Facebook Stories9:161440 x 2560 px500 px wide (image), 250 px wide (video)
Facebook Reels9:161440 x 2560 px600 x 600 px (image)
Carousel (Feed)1:11080 x 1080 px or larger1080 x 1080 px
Right column1:11080 x 1080 px or larger254 x 133 px
Marketplace1:11080 x 1080 px or largerNot published

If you only ever export two files, export a 1440 x 1800 vertical for Feed and a 1440 x 2560 vertical for Stories and Reels. Those two cover the placements that get the overwhelming majority of impressions. Add a 1080 x 1080 square when you run carousel, Marketplace, or right column.

Facebook ad image size: file types, weight, and tolerance

The facebook ad image size question is really three questions: pixels, format, and how much Meta will forgive. The Ads Guide is specific on all three.

  • Format: JPG or PNG for every image placement. Use PNG when the creative has hard-edged graphics or lettering, JPG for photographic work.
  • File size: 30MB maximum per image. That is generous enough that you should never compress a static ad into mush to satisfy it.
  • Aspect ratio tolerance: 3% on Facebook Feed, Facebook Reels, and carousel; 1% on Stories and on Instagram placements. A file that misses the target ratio by more than that gets cropped or rejected rather than letterboxed.
  • Minimum width: 600 pixels for Facebook Feed images, 500 pixels for Stories, 600 x 600 for Reels images. Hitting the minimum is not the goal; Meta's recommended resolution exists because phone screens have outrun the old 1080-wide standard.

The tolerance number is the one that catches people. If you design a 1200 x 1500 file you are exactly 4:5 and fine. If you design 1200 x 1440, you are 5:6, roughly 4% off, and Facebook Feed will crop you.

Facebook video ad specs

Video shares the same canvas shapes as image ads, with its own encoding rules. Meta asks for H.264 compression, square pixels, a fixed frame rate, progressive scan, and stereo AAC audio at 128kbps or higher. Beyond that:

PlacementRatio and resolutionDurationMax file size
Facebook Feed4:5, 1440 x 1800 px1 second to 241 minutes4GB
Facebook Stories9:16, 1440 x 2560 px1 second to 3 minutes4GB
Facebook Reels9:16, 1440 x 2560 pxNo maximum4GB
Carousel (Feed)1:1, 1080 x 1080 px1 second to 240 minutes4GB

Two practical notes from the guide. Stories video longer than 15 seconds automatically splits into multiple Story cards, so structure a 30 second Story ad as two coherent halves rather than one long build. And captions are optional but recommended everywhere, because a large share of Feed viewing happens with sound off.

Carousel, right column, and Marketplace

These three are the square family, and they behave differently enough to be worth calling out.

  • Carousel: 2 to 10 cards, each 1:1 at 1080 x 1080 or larger, images up to 30MB and videos up to 4GB. Text is tight: on the awareness objective carousel spec Meta lists 80 characters of primary text, a 20 character headline, and an 18 character description per card. Write the headline first, then the art.
  • Right column: desktop only, 1:1, at least 1080 x 1080, with a hard minimum of 254 x 133 pixels. It renders small, and Meta explicitly recommends not adding text to the image at this size.
  • Marketplace: 1:1, at least 1080 x 1080, JPG or PNG up to 30MB, with 125 characters of primary text, a 40 character headline, and a 30 character description. Product-forward imagery outperforms lifestyle here because the surrounding surface is a listings grid.

Instagram ad size: where Meta placements match and where they differ

The instagram ad size specs come from the same Ads Guide, and for the shapes that matter they are identical to Facebook: Instagram Feed is 4:5 at 1440 x 1800, and Instagram Stories and Reels are 9:16 at 1440 x 2560. Same 30MB image ceiling, same JPG or PNG requirement. The differences are in the edges:

  • Minimum width is 500 pixels on Instagram Feed, versus 600 on Facebook Feed.
  • Aspect ratio tolerance is 1% across Instagram placements, tighter than Facebook Feed's 3%. Hit the ratio exactly.
  • Instagram Feed accepts a range, with a minimum aspect ratio of 400 x 500 (4:5 portrait) and a maximum of 191 x 100 (1.91:1 landscape). Anything outside that band is rejected.
  • Text limits run shorter on Reels: 44 characters of primary text on Instagram Reels and 40 on Facebook Reels, against 125 on Feed and Stories.
  • Hashtags cap at 30 on Instagram Feed ads.

Practically, this means one 4:5 master and one 9:16 master serve both platforms. Export at Meta's recommended resolution, keep the aspect ratio exact, and you will not need a separate Instagram set. If you are sizing organic posts rather than paid, that is a different table: see the Instagram post size guide.

Safe zones for Stories and Reels

Vertical placements put interface elements on top of your creative. Meta's guidance for Stories and Reels is to leave roughly 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom, and 6% of each side free of text and logos. On a 1440 x 2560 canvas that is about 358 pixels at the top, 896 at the bottom, and 86 on each side. The Facebook Stories video spec quotes a slightly more forgiving 14% top and 20% bottom, but designing to the 35% bottom rule keeps one file safe across every vertical surface.

That leaves a usable core of roughly 1268 x 1306 pixels in the middle of a 9:16 frame. Design the full canvas as atmosphere and keep the message, the logo, and the product inside that core.

What is the best size for a Facebook ad?

4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels, if you are picking one. It takes up more vertical space in the Feed than square or landscape, which is exactly why Meta moved its recommendation there. Landscape 1.91:1 creative now occupies the least screen area of any accepted shape on mobile, and mobile is where the impressions are.

The honest caveat: the best size is the one that matches the placement you actually bought. If a campaign runs Advantage+ placements across Feed, Stories, and Reels, upload both a 4:5 and a 9:16 asset rather than letting Meta crop one file into shapes it was not composed for.

What size is 1.91 1 Facebook ad?

1.91:1 is the wide landscape shape Meta inherited from link previews, and the size most templates use for it is 1200 x 628 pixels. Meta still accepts it: 191 x 100 is listed as the maximum aspect ratio for Instagram Feed images, and landscape files run in Feed without complaint. It is no longer the recommended shape, though. Meta's current Feed recommendation is 4:5 at 1440 x 1800, and a 1.91:1 file will render as a short horizontal band on a phone. Keep 1.91:1 for placements that genuinely want landscape, and stop treating it as the default Facebook ad size.

Is 1080x1350 good for Facebook?

Yes. 1080 x 1350 is exactly 4:5, comfortably above the 600 pixel minimum width, and it will run cleanly in Facebook Feed and Instagram Feed. It is simply not Meta's current recommended resolution. The guide asks for 1440 x 1800, the same ratio at higher pixel density, which holds up better on modern phone displays. If you already have a library of 1080 x 1350 creative, it works today. If you are exporting fresh, export at 1440 x 1800.

What size is the meta ad poster 2026?

For 2026, Meta's published recommendations are 1440 x 1800 at 4:5 for Facebook and Instagram Feed, and 1440 x 2560 at 9:16 for Stories and Reels, with 1080 x 1080 squares for carousel, Marketplace, and right column. Those are the numbers currently on the Ads Guide. Meta revises the guide without announcement, so check the placement page for your campaign before a large production run rather than trusting a cheat sheet, this one included.

Social media ad sizes: how Facebook fits the wider set

Once you have the Meta specs, the rest of the social media ad sizes fall into three shapes: 4:5 vertical for feeds, 9:16 for full-screen vertical, and 1:1 square for grid and sidebar surfaces. Display advertising is the exception, running on fixed IAB units instead of ratios, covered in the banner ad sizes guide. Page-level assets like the Facebook cover photo and the LinkedIn banner follow their own dimensions again.

The workflow that scales is to build one master concept at the largest vertical size and recompose it, rather than resizing. A 9:16 crop of a 4:5 file loses a third of the composition; a concept designed for both keeps its subject in the shared center.

Making the creative at the right size

Knowing the numbers is the easy half. Producing a 4:5 and a 9:16 version of the same idea, then several variants of each to test, is where campaigns stall. That is what the AI ad generator exists for: describe the product, the offer, and the format, and generate ad creative at the aspect ratio the placement needs. The ad banner generator handles single campaign banners, and ad creative variations turns one brief into multiple directions to test against each other.

Two rules regardless of how you produce the art. Generate the imagery without text, because AI models render lettering unreliably, then typeset headlines in a layout tool inside the safe zone. And export at Meta's recommended resolution rather than the minimum, since the 30MB ceiling gives you no reason to ship a soft file.

The short version

Export 1440 x 1800 at 4:5 for Feed, 1440 x 2560 at 9:16 for Stories and Reels, 1080 x 1080 for carousel and Marketplace. JPG or PNG under 30MB, MP4 or MOV under 4GB. Hit the aspect ratio exactly, because tolerance is 3% on Facebook Feed and 1% on Instagram. Keep the message out of the top 14% and bottom 35% of any vertical frame. That is the whole spec, and it is stable enough to build a production template around.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best size for a Facebook ad?

4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels, if you are picking one. It takes up more vertical space in the Feed than square or landscape, which is why Meta moved its recommendation there. If your campaign runs across Feed, Stories, and Reels, upload both a 4:5 asset and a 9:16 asset at 1440 x 2560 rather than letting Meta crop one file into shapes it was not composed for.

What size is 1.91 1 Facebook ad?

1.91:1 is the wide landscape shape inherited from link previews, and the size most templates use for it is 1200 x 628 pixels. Meta still accepts it, listing 191 x 100 as the maximum aspect ratio for Instagram Feed images, but it is no longer the recommended shape. Meta's current Feed recommendation is 4:5 at 1440 x 1800, and a 1.91:1 file renders as a short horizontal band on a phone.

Is 1080x1350 good for Facebook?

Yes. 1080 x 1350 is exactly 4:5 and comfortably above the 600 pixel minimum width, so it runs cleanly in Facebook Feed and Instagram Feed. It is not Meta's current recommended resolution, though. The Ads Guide asks for 1440 x 1800, the same ratio at higher pixel density. Existing 1080 x 1350 creative works today; export fresh files at 1440 x 1800.

What size is the meta ad poster 2026?

For 2026, Meta's published recommendations are 1440 x 1800 at 4:5 for Facebook and Instagram Feed, 1440 x 2560 at 9:16 for Stories and Reels, and 1080 x 1080 squares for carousel, Marketplace, and right column. Images are JPG or PNG up to 30MB and videos are MP4, MOV, or GIF up to 4GB. Meta revises the Ads Guide without announcement, so check the placement page before a large production run.

What is the Facebook ad image size limit?

30MB per image across every Facebook and Instagram image placement, in JPG or PNG. Video ads cap at 4GB in MP4, MOV, or GIF. The ceilings are generous enough that you should never compress a static ad heavily to satisfy them. Aspect ratio tolerance is the tighter constraint: 3% on Facebook Feed, Reels, and carousel, and 1% on Stories and all Instagram placements.

Can I generate Facebook ad creative with Dream Pixel Forge?

Yes. Describe the product, offer, and format, and the ad tools generate creative at the aspect ratio the placement needs, with free trial credits and no account required to start. Generate the imagery without text, since AI models render lettering unreliably, then typeset headlines in a layout tool inside the safe zone, keeping them out of the top 14% and bottom 35% of any vertical frame.
